California Government BroadbandCalifornia Broadband Council Meeting

Next Broadband Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2013, 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m in Sacramento. Legislative Office Building (LOB), 1020 N Street, Room 100. The Council is charged with reviewing implementation of the 2008 Broadband Task Force Report recommendations and improving coordination among state agencies. The Council will help applicants to compete more effectively for federal funds made available through the National Broadband Plan, building on the $420 million in broadband infrastructure grants from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the $57 million in California Advanced Services Fund grants already awarded in the state.

Council members include the president of the California Public Utilities Commission, State Chief Information Officer, Secretary of the California Emergency Management Agency, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Director of General Services, Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities and Communications, the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce, and the president of the California Emerging Technologies Fund.

The Broadband Task Force has created the first detailed maps of broadband availability and speeds in California. California is the largest state to have mapped broadband availability and the first to have mapped speeds.

Fiber Collabration DatabaseFiber Collaboration Database
The Fiber Collaboration Database allows broadband providers to view upcoming construction projects, notify Caltrans of their interest in including broadband infrastructure in the project, and provides an opportunity for collaboration among companies interested in joint trenching opportunities.
